Australian Burgundy enthusiasts will get the opportunity to bid online at Sotheby’s New York for a rare collection of bottles direct from the cellars of Joseph Drouhin. The highlights include three bottles of 1961 Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses (estimate $2,220AUD-3,050) and three bottles of 1971 Musigny (estimate $4,440AUD-6,100).
Finding older bottles of good Burgundy with impeccable provenance in any quantity is
a very hard prospect for Australian wine lovers. Most collectors will rarely
sell their Burgundy at auction, preferring to hoard and drink them over time.
Australian wine collectors should set their alarm clocks as the auction goes live in Sydney on the 9th March at 2:00 AM (New York; 8th March 10:00AM).
Mark Wickman of
Wickman’s Fine Wine Auctions, an Australian wine auction house,
cautions potential bidders to ensure they understand the cost of importing the wine into Australia
before placing a bid on any lots.
